Injury claims numbers down

PIAB personal injuries claim numbers were down across the board again in 2022.

Motor, workplace & public liability injury claims have all fallen sharply year-on-year.

The major reduction in the number of claims coming to PIAB is positive as it shows reductions in the cost of insurance claims for personal injuries in Ireland, with an overall reduction of over 40% since 2019.

Our claims application figures are below:

2019 applications = 31,072

2020 applications = 26,009 (-16%)

2021 applications = 21,410 (-17%)

2022 applications = 18,453 (-14%)

PIAB’s impartial and independent service leads to benefits for all parties, by resolving claims much more quickly than litigation and removing avoidable legal costs.  Our role is expanding later this year with he introduction of mediation, increasing the number of claims we can resolve.
